Storey Institute

This imposing Paley & Austin building was opened in 1887 and was the gift of Sir Thomas Storey, another great industrialist and benefactor of the city. The Art Institute was opened on the occasion of Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee. A covenant protects the building from non-educational use and the Institute still performs that function today, carefully tended by the Friends of the Storey Institute.
