The Winter Collection
There is a spectacular show of some of the region’s most excellent artists at Finestra Gallery in Kirkby Lonsdale this month. William H Jones, who has an exhibition of Venice paintings at Brantwood, Coniston, has completed new paintings exclusively for this exhibition comprising local winter scenes. There are paintings by Martin Greenland, who has become well known for his highly detailed atmospheric oil paintings and recently won the John Moores 24 art prize at the Walker Gallery in Liverpool. Yorkshire artists James Wheeler and David Allen are also featured. James paints atmospheric landscape views in oil on a cork surface, with an unusual depth and texture. David is an outstanding pastel painter, and is a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists at the prestigious Mall Galleries on London’s south bank.

New to the gallery is ceramicist and 2007 Klei prize winner Joan Bideau, who is exhibiting her exquisite fantasy ceramic figures for the first time. Angie Flynn, whose pictures of humorous characters in everyday life, is also exhibiting. The work on display here is a mixture of media, from various fabrics and threads to strips of paper and paint. She draws her inspiration from everyday surroundings observing family and friends, to create work with humour that the viewer can identify with.

There are new paintings from two of the founder members of Green Door Studio, Fiona Clucas and Thuline De Cock. Tim Pavey from Kirkby Lonsdale, who is well-known for his vibrant Mediterranean and local landscapes, is exhibiting exciting new paintings and drawings. Along with his stunning watercolours Louis Morton has completed new acrylic paintings, and this year there are breathtaking animal paintings by David C Lyons. New to Finestra, are exciting contemporary landscape paintings by Nick Johnson, and great floral paintings on box panels by Mark Brierly.

There is a continuous display of contemporary glass, wood, jewellery and furniture on show at the gallery. This new Christmas exhibition is on now, and runs until the 31st of December, and the gallery is open every day from 10.00am to 5.00pm, plus late night shopping on Thursdays during December.
