In "A Meeting of Minds" actor and pianist Michael Lunts has recreated, in a synthesis of drama and music, the meetings that took place between the young Rachmaninov and the hypnotist Dr. Dahl, in Moscow in 1900, following the disastrous premiere of the composer's First Symphony. This 'play with music' follows the growing relationship between the two men, as Dr. Dahl leads Rachmaninov out of despair towards a realization of his true potential. Out of hypnosis is born his famous Second Piano Concerto, a work dedicated to the Doctor. The piano music that will be played by Michael Lunts as part of his performance features prominently in the film ‘Brief Encounter’, much of which was shot in the picturesque Carnforth, with many scenes at the idyllic Carnforth Station.

Reviews from the Canadian tour:
"There are legions of talented musicians, actors and writers at work at this year's Edmonton Festival (the largest in North America) but Michael Lunts is probably executing the most dazzling play:
Lunts the WRITER provides us with a detailed understanding of the composer Rachmaninov.
Lunts the ACTOR conveys the all-consuming passion Rachmaninov had for his work.
Lunts the PIANIST translates that with Rachmaninov's music."

"This play has all the right notes... England's Michael Lunts strips the stuffiness from classical music in this excellent one-man show; in which he not only portrays Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninov but also plays many excerpts from his beloved music ... for the price of one ticket you get both a play and a concert."
