The historic city of Lancaster is dominated by its medieval castle, where the Pendle Witches were famously tried and hanged in the 17th Century. A prosperous seaport in Georgian times, the Customs House contains an award winning Maritime Museum, and other attractions tell the tales of Lancaster past, such as the Priory Church of St Mary and the Judges Lodgings Museum.

Nearby the wide sweep of Morecambe Bay is a haven for seas birds, famous for its sunsets and provides spectacular views across to the English Lake District.

The Lune Valley is a landscape of outstanding natural beauty made famous by the paintings of the artist JWM Turner on his tour of the North alongside the poet William Wordsworth urging visitors, in one of the early tourist guides, to seek out the unspoilt countryside and picturesque villages.
